Wow, I need to upgrade my PC. Seriously, after seeing
Call of Duty: United Offensive demoed for me, I really need to upgrade my PC.
United Offensive is an expansion pack for
Call of Duty on the PC... but it seriously looks almost like a sequel rather than just an expansion to a PC game many have hailed as one of the best World War II FPS games yet.
Developed by Grey Matter studios, the same people who brought id’s
Return to Castle Wolfenstien: The Tides of War to the Xbox,
United Offensive takes everything that peopple loved about
Call of Duty and adds to it. Massively adds to it.
I said it sounded more like a sequel than an expansion pack, right? And I’m sure you want to know the reasons. Well, how about over 10 single player missions and an expanded multiplayer campaign featuring ninety (90) new multiplayer maps and three new modes of play? How about the ability to use vehicles? How about over a dozen new weapons to use, including flame throwers? How about the ability to sprint and to cook off grenades? How does all this sound? It sounds more like a sequel than an expansion, really.
One of the new missions I was shown happens on a bomber, where you must take control of certain guns on the airship and keep your plane in the sky. Besides looking gorgeous, your plane will take real time damage as you get shot at by the Luftwaffe (Germany’s air force during WWII). I saw holes in the plane, as well as other men in the plane getting shot from a strafing Messerschmitt. Add in that you are not the only bomber in the sky, and you watch them shoot down enemy planes or get shot down yourself... man, I was nearly droolng at the mouth when I was watching this.
Luckily, for all of you who have already played
Call of Duty, Activision has said the specs for playing
United Assault will be very simmilar to the specs needed for
Call of Duty. Damn shame my PC needs a major upgrade just to play the original...
