I'm starting this thread, which will be stickied for a while, to get any and all input on GAF. Do not hold back your criticism. Though your suggestion may not be used, all voices will be heard. To make your lives easier, here are some easy questions to answer:

What is it you want to see more of?

What is it you want to see less of?

Do you like the podcasts and/or video content?

Would you like them better with folks from the industry in them?

Do you prefer Japanese, America, European/other games or just all games that are good?

Do you like the game collection/wishlist/ranking features?

Do you like the blog features?

What user features would you like to see?

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Those are just suggestions. Feel free to speak your mind about anything at all. And you don't have to answer only once. Discuss other people's answers. If this thread doesn't have lively discussion for a couple weeks, you guys aren't trying hard enough because GAF is definitely not a perfect site :)
  1.
What is it you want to see more of?

    Bishounen, and/or yaoi!
(That, and reviews. Maybe reader reviews. And something to prompt more people to rate games so we can get a more solid base of game ratings.)

What is it you want to see less of?

Male fanservice! Well, okay, I don't mind it as long as we get more of the other kind. Oh, and comment trolls.

Do you like the podcasts and/or video content?

    I honestly haven't used them as much as I should. One of those things I keep meaning to get around to. ^^;;

Would you like them better with folks from the industry in them?

Probably, just because it would add even more depth.

Do you prefer Japanese, America, European/other games or just all games that are good?

In general, probably Japanese, although there's good stuff from every continent.

Do you like the game collection/wishlist/ranking features?

Yeah, but I'd like to see some sort of incentives to get more people to use them, or at least the ranking ones.

Do you like the blog features?

Yeah, they're alright, although I have a livejournal for most of my blogging needs. :p

What user features would you like to see?

Reader reviews, which it seems like I see listed as "coming soon" everywhere... not sure if it's because the games just don't have reader reviews submitted, or because it's a feature that's just not implemented yet. Oh, and maybe an editorial feature.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Oooh, finishing up with the tough questions, eh? Depends on my mood... sometimes, chocolate chip cookie dough. Sometimes, something simple like chocolate. Or if I'm all chocolated-out (which is hard to do), maybe even something different, like... honeydew or something.

Oh oh... or... ginger ice cream! I've only managed to have it once, and absolutely *loved* it! I really really wanna find someplace to be able to get some for at home. :(

    i hate you....

    __________
What is it you want to see more of?

    -IP Bans ^^^
-previews (although I guess this is less something you can do and more something that will happen as the site gets bigger)
-you already know the suggestions I made for the forums and I tink the main site is really pretty good.

What is it you want to see less of?

-Famitsu Review Scores, I honestly don't see why anyone even cares
-Japanese Sales, it might be more exciting if there was some, you know, change in them :-P

Do you like the podcasts and/or video content?

-I do. I won't say I listen very often because they are kind of long but the ones I've listened too have been well done.

Would you like them better with folks from the industry in them?

-that'd be neat, but I don;t think it qould make me tune in or anything if I wasn't going to anyway.

Do you prefer Japanese, America, European/other games or just all games that are good?

-You mean news, I prefer news about American games, not US-made ones, but actual news about their releases if that's what this implies.

Do you like the game collection/wishlist/ranking features?

-Yeah, I don;t know what the wishlist is but I use both the others, I think most people do?

Do you like the blog features?

-so so, I check them, but I'm not really a bloggy person.

What user features would you like to see?

-I'd like to see the FAQS take off, the example one was really nice.
-Comments on the Reviews? or at least some kind of discussion, I know there are the forums now but I don't think it's quite fitting.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

-joke question? how can one possibly decide, they are all good except for Coffee-based ones.
  3.
Oh, I'd agree also that I'd rather see the news about American releases, ie: the translations of Japanese games, rather than the actual imports. But if you're asking about the types of games we like, I myself usually tend toward the Japanese games.

That is a kinda unclear question...

(And sheesh, if everyone hates yaoi, I guess I'll settle for more bishounen...)

Posted By: joshschw-Famitsu Review Scores, I honestly don't see why anyone even cares

Regardless of how people may feel about Famitsu's reviewers, Famitsu often has the VERY FIRST reviews of games. So, posting their scores is worthwhile.

-I'd like to see the FAQS take off, the example one was really nice.

Rich's FAQ design is indeed nice. I think it's kind of pointless competing with GameFAQs, but perhaps we could settle for a merely decent-sized FAQ audience.

-Comments on the Reviews? or at least some kind of discussion, I know there are the forums now but I don't think it's quite fitting.

That's certainly something to consider. It would be nice for the readers and the reviewer to go back and forth discussing certain aspects of the game.

FAQs are still on hold, but a great suggestion! I'm even more skilled than I was when I first made the FAQ stuff! So when I get back around to that, expect good things. The goal will not be to compete with GameFAQs per se, but rather to great the most easy to use FAQs.

The Japanese/European/American question is not in regards to news, but in regards to your personal tastes. Which games do you prefer? We can fairly easily track which news you prefer. The most popular GAF article ever is about the Phantom. But I'm guess nobody wants to hear more about that ;)

I want to see more non-news content. Previews, reviews, user-written previews, user-written reviews. I also want to see a new site design.
I want to see less of ivoodoo or whatever dizzy don mega's new account name is.
I love the podcasts, but you knew this already. (Get on an Apple payment plan already, Justin!)
I would certainly love industry folks in the podcast or GAFtv. If you get Alexander Smith on one of those things, I will send you money. (No, I'm serious. Preferably in the form of paying for site merchandise that doesn't suck.)
I prefer Japanese and American games.
I like the game tracking features.
    Yes, I use the blog.
Give us user reviews and user previews featured on our account pages, and an interface to track gamertags/PSN IDs/Wii friend codes of the site's users. Also, DS friend code tracking please.
    Chocolate chip owns you all.

You know that we do have VC entries, right? But erm, yeah, sometimes it takes us a while with the VC and XBLA.

Anyway, database is now up to date. ;o)

What is it you want to see more of?

    I like the reviews.
What is it you want to see less of?

Nothing. I like next to all of the content on the site, and what little I dislike is stuff everyone else likes anyway :)
Do you like the podcasts and/or video content?

Honestly, I don't really look at them. If I did, I would probably like them.
Would you like them better with folks from the industry in them?

Depends on who the industry person is, but yes, I would probably watch/listen to more if there were industry people.
Do you prefer Japanese, America, European/other games or just all games that are good?

Any game that's good, but probably more Japanese than other games.
Do you like the game collection/wishlist/ranking features?

I do, but they don't seem to get much use compared to something interactive like forums.
Do you like the blog features?

    Yep.
What user features would you like to see?

I'm with Terpfen. I'd like to see user-written reviews of games. A moderation system of some kind to make sure junk reviews don't stick around would be an added bonus :)
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

I'm a big fan of cookie dough. And mint chocolate chip. Sad that they don't go together very well :(
  4.
Here's some suggestions for the blog feature (I haven't looked enough at other things to make any recommendations):

-Let us put up a picture on the left corner or right corner.

-I know we can have friends, but could we have a way of knowing when our friends, say, write a new blog or post a comment somewhere? Something simple, like their name would be a different color or something.

-I guess just customization of our blog, really. Make it "our own".

Those are a few of the things I thought of when looking at it. Thanks for reading!

One thing in particular with the comment system in the news posts -

And edit/delete button would be nice, especially when what you thought you typed doesn't quite make it to the actual post in one piece.

We staff members don't typically edit the content of posts (because y'all might not like that too much) but if there's a broken post, sometimes it'll get edited. So like Josh said, I'd much rather have the occasional typo/ broken comment than people changing their posts all around.

Are we going to get a little space below are posts for custom sigs? That would brighten up the place a bit.. maybe.

Of course, you'd want the option to take it away from certain members who might abuse it. I don't know how tough that would be to implement though.

I'm down with that. You could always just have a width / height and fliesize restriction. Say, 500x150 @ 100kb.

Well, that was just a suggestion for an upper limit. It may seem large, but alot of forums have a limit similar to that size. Something like 300x75 would be fine too.

How about splitting the games category into "Games News" and "Games Discussion". I for one, would like to post threads about individual games, bit I fear a single games forum like we have right now would become overcrowded rather fast.

Maybe I haven't come up with the best forum names to describe what I mean, but I hope you get the idea.

Here's a thought for the actual site. Namely, the grades we can give the games in our library. I'd like to be able to give .5

    eg: 7.5, 8.5 etc

Personally, I'd find it useful. Though I am aware that plenty of people would prefer if we did things out of 5 instead of 10, so I guess it's up to the people who'd have to implement it ;P

Hmm...tell you what, instead of saying the names of new stages or assist trophies or whatever, I'll just say "new stage, new assist trophy." That way those who don't want to have anything spoiled for them will be safe, and those who do can just enter the article to find out what exactly the new things are. For some things, like "Samus' Final Smash," music samples, and game mechanics, those don't spoil anything, so I'll keep doing those the same way.

This is gonna sound silly but, can we have something other then a white background? It might just be my crappy monitor and my tired eyes, but the brightness of the forums is giving me a headache.

Even a reduction in the amount of white space might help, if you're not going to change the background itself.
