Devil May Cry 3, subtitled
Dante's Awakening, takes place before the events of the original
Devil May Cry. As
Capcom Co., Ltd. explains the story, several thousand years have passed since the demon warrior Sparda raised his sword against the unholy world to save the human race before joining them and fathering Dante, making him half human-half demon with amazing powers. It turns out that Dante was not the only son of Sparda. While Dante chose to fight the forces of evil, his twin brother, Virgil, decided to carry on the legacy of his sinister ancestors. Dante, obviously, has to stop him.
Dante will encounter other characters along the way, including a mysterious man named Arkham and a female hunter named Lady whose mission is to take down all demons, Dante included. Not to mention all the demons and devils Dante will have to take down in order to progress. This prequel will fill in more of Dante and his family's history.
A gameplay addition unique to
Devil May Cry 3 is the Style System. Players can choose to use short-range, long-range, defensive or evasive play styles. Each system has its own range of abilities which can all be powered up to obtain new moves in the skill tree of choice. The combo system has also been given an upgrade since Dante can now be equipped with four different weapons that can be swapped at any point, allowing for a wide range of combination attacks. Devil May Cry 3 will be released on March 8th, 2005.
