Chunsoft recently updated its
official Homeland website with three new movies.
Homeland is the GameCube MMORPG that was announced awhile back. Many people thought that it had been cancelled, but that's obviously not the case now. Unfortunately, it probably won't be coming to North American shores (Japan-only spring 2005 release right now), but we can hope. There's always the option of importing if it doesn't.
Homeland will be only the third official online GameCube game, making use of the GameCube's broadband adaptor peripheral (the others benig
Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II and
PSO: Episode III). As far as specific online details go, all we have to go by right now is what's revealed in the movies. Up to 35 GameCubes will be able to connect with each other, with the host's GameCube acting as the server. The host gets some special abilities, like being able to observe everyone playing on his server, hearing their prayers, and more.
You'll be able to chat with other players, and of course, explore, fight monsters together, and everything else you'd expect in a MMORPG. Unfortunately, the controller will have to be used for chatting. Of note is that there won't be any online fee, a big plus for those interested in playing online.
Based on the movies, it looks like
Homeland will feature a single-player mode in addition to online multiplayer play. There's a Life bar (Health Points) and a Power bar (most likely Magic Points). Again, as with any RPG, you can expect to fight monsters, cast spells, get items, etc.
Homeland's environments are really varied, as are its characters. You'll be able to choose from a bunch of different types of characters and then customize your character's appearance (including clothes) to your liking.
The in-game music featured in the movies is really nice and fits well with the game's style. That style being cartoony and unique (some may call it "kiddy").
Enough talk from me, why don't you download the movies and see for yourself?

Yep, my mistake. For some reason, I didn't think of PSO III.

Isn't this the third online game for Gamecube?

I meant, "as in, not online via tunneling through Warp Pipe." It comes with online functionality; you don't need to tunnel using a third-party program to play online.

Odd how it's an "officially online" game, yet there's no centralized server.

Wasn't it orginally announced as having two disks, one for online play and one for offline?

Actually considering that PSO Episode III was so vastly different from the first Gamecube installment, this is the third online game for Gamecube. That is if Midway deicides that Gamecube isn't worthy of Mortal Kombat Deception online, which I think is likely... bastards. And of course depending on how long it takes to be released, don't forget about Phantasy Star Universe.

After watching the movies, I'm really, really interested in this. Too bad it probably won't be coming to the US. :(
