The one thing on
DDR fans' minds after hearing about
Dance Dance Revolution with Mario after, "What the heck?!" was surely "What songs is it gonna have???"
Well, we can't bring you an official songlist yet, but we can provide some details on a few of the songs you can expect to be dancing to later this year. A very big thanks to our own Wenke Gilner as well as Tora-kun from the
DDR Freak forums for translating the song info. Also, credit for the pics goes to the folks at
NintendoINSIDE, who were at attendance at the World Hobby Fair in Tokyo recently.
Take a look at the third pic down below, on which five song titles from the Tokyo World Fair demo are visible. Here are the five songs in no particular order, translated as best as possible:
1) Mozart in the Pipe (rough translation)
2) Then Go The You - Kira Kira (possibly Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
3) Here We Go - Super Mario Bros. (from
4) Hoppin' Choppin - Super Mario Bros.
5) ParaPara Carmen - Carmen
The pic also reveals the interface for
DDR With Mario. The song wheel is similar to what we've seen in
5th Mix through
Extreme. As usual, the song title & artist is shown along with a picture in the top left of the screen. Below that are bars representing selectable options. The first long bar is Character Display, with On and Off option bars after it. The second long bar is Song Difficulty, with Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard bars following it. The bottom of the screen shows the familiar double up/down arrows for changing the song difficulty. Noticeably absent is the groove radar and song bpm (beats per minute).
According to Tora-kun, going by the first pic (in which the end results after a song are shown),
DDR with Mario's scoring system is going to be a little bit different from previous console versions of
DDR. Players' steps will be Perfect, Great, a word which roughly translates to "Late," and Miss. In PS2 versions, the judgments are Perfect, Great, Good, Almost, & Boo. The letter grading system will once again return.
Update:
Once again, thanks to Tora-kun from this
DDR Freak thread for the following info:
"OK~! After viewing a Japanese blog shown to me by U.G., we know how the following confirmations:
Official Difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard
Official Judgements: PERFECT!!, GREAT!, hayai(Early)/osoi(Late), MISS
The existance of freeze arrows is unknown at this time.
Judgement Grades:AA, A, B, C, D (E is unknown, guess noone failed their songs, ne? laugh.gif)
(If I translated this right, then either there is no AAA, or something of that sort) (Zen PERFECT janakutemo AA deru) <~is the phrase
Play result screen display amount of calories burned at the end.
ALSO~! It's to be noted that Here We Go is "From Super Mario Brothers" and is an arrangement of the music from a field stage, while Hoppin' Choppin' is "From Super Mario USA" and is an arrangement of that game's field stage music. :3"
There's still no word on a US release for
Dance Dance Revolution with Mario, but we'll be sure to bring you word on it as soon as we hear it.

>"From Super Mario USA" <
I'm not a big DDR player (I dance like an uncoordinated law student), but if that's remixed fast enough I forsee injuries.

cutriss is from ddrfreak.com. He's not proving leetness. DDRFreak and GAF have an unspoken friendship of getting info from each other over the years. Good guys (and gals) they be.

Oh, heh. I thought 5th Mix Extreme sounded odd. I didn't pick up on the fact that the original post meant 5th Mix through Extreme. Thanks for that and the info on the Mozart song.
I actually own all 3 PS2 DDRs and play them regularly, btw. ;)

Also...
"The song wheel is similar to that of 5th Mix Extreme's."
Spoken like someone not familiar with DDR at all... :D
What we mean is that the song wheel is similar to the song selection interface seen in the arcade games from 5th Mix through DDR Extreme. There is no "5th Mix Extreme". :P

The Mozart song's full title is "Dokan no naka no Mozart". Our best translation is "Mozart in the Pipe", as in a warp pipe.

Just a heads up. You should credit NintendoINSIDE for the pictures, those pictures are from the Next-Generation World Hobby Fair when it was in Osaka, not the "Tokyo World Fair".
