News - Premium edition Legend of Zelda GC in the works

Posted by Josh Freund at 11:17:19 PM EST on 3.13.2005.

In a recent interview with Gamespot, Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo's executive vice president of sales and marketing, made an interesting comment regarding the new Legend of Zelda coming out for GameCube this holiday season. Speaking about this year's E3, Reggie said:

"We want them to leave feeling that 'Wow, Zelda is going to be a huge hit and I want it now. And I'm going to go to my local retailer and put a deposit for the super premium edition of the game,' which we'll make available."

Seemingly, this would indicate that Nintendo will be releasing two versions of Zelda. It seems like this has become the trend lately, with Halo 2 and the future releases Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Jade Empire all having special collector's editions for $5 more than the $49.99 retail price.

Details on this 'premium' edition aren't known at this time, so it's anyone's guess as to what it could include. Still, most of the time the bonuses are nice and worth the extra $5. Even if it's just a cool-looking case like Halo 2's limited edition case (classic Zelda gold would be nice), I have a feeling fans won't mind spending an extra $5 for this one.

Pixy, you must be referring to the Bandai Satellaview attachment for the Super Famicon, right?

The Zelda game for the Satellaview you're referring to actually wasn't a Zelda game; instead, it was a game based on the Zelda engine. In a retranslated ROM online someone did put Link back into it though, I remember seeing screens. The character used in the game was the logo character for the Satellaview afaik.

Also, as you may or may not know, the most famous Satellaview game was Radical Dreamers, the text based "Choose your own adventure" semi-sequel to Chrono Trigger.

How about the 16-bit version of the original Zelda that we never got? Or was that even released in Japan? I remember reading about it in a magazine.

That is an April Fool's joke, hence the Starting the 1st of April thing. I thought it was real but how did they get it first and noone else knew or did anything about it. After I saw it the screenshot looked more fake.

Two Things:

1) The Best Seller Sticker: I myself investigated this one. The reasoning behind the sticker is that there are two reasons. One is that the game has become a best seller in the Japanese market or elsewhere. Two: The cover art is the one that polls of people chose over any others. Got that answer straight from Nintendo themselves.

2) "Premium" edition. It was put in the newest issue of EGM that as of April 1st when you preorder The New Zelda Game, you'll get a redone version of The Wind Waker that has The New Zelda's graphics. I personally think it's an April fools joke, but there is no harm in hoping.

they should have the game case put into a special gold tin with the triforce engraved into the front fr the SE zelda game...like the tin case at GS for RE4..:D

Actually, I think I know what it is. For $10 extra, you can get the 'premium edition,' which will not have the "Best Seller" logo on the front. People who aren't willing to pay the extra $10 will have to get the regular version, which has the BS logo.

it will most likely just be a Zelda box that says Gamers Choice on it when the game is just released. :)

Haha yea dave, I fell for that too, till I realized it was the April issue... hehe

Anyway, this got me really excited, I wonder what the premium edition will have. I'm hoping for possibly a soundtrack?

Anyone see the April fools joke in the April EGM? I bought it for 3 seconds and then I realized, this news woulda been on the web a month ago if it was real... Still made me a little sad. But I'm still excited about the SE Zelda :D

You know what would rock? If this one had like.. an extra DVD of all the trailers, information on the game, all the Legend of Zelda commercials, and stuff.

You know what would be funny? If one of the extras was a disc with ports of all three CDi games, all 13 or so episodes of the TV series, and whatnot. That would be amusing.

I will be there the moment this game comes out.. in my WindWaker Shirt and my Ocarina of Time Hat decked out in my Legend of Zelda pins.... yes... I am geek.. watch me love my Legend of Zelda.

I doubt it will cost $5. Nintendo's been doing this for a few years now, where if u pre-order the game u get some goodies. LoZ Master Quest? Remember?
