News - First Namco x Capcom trailer

Back in January,
Namco surprised people when it announced that it would be publishing a strategy RPG/fighting game called
Namco x Capcom, featuring characters that have appeared in Namco and
Capcom games through the years.
Well, we've now got the first trailer for you. You get to hear (each character is voice-acted) and see a lot of characters. There are undoubtedly new characters revealed in it (there are 100+ in the game, so it's hard to keep track of who we've seen in screens and such so far), the most notable of which are Mega Man & Roll from the
Rockman Dash/
Mega Man Legends games (thanks to daislite for clarifying who they are and what games they're from).
You'll need
Quicktime (free download from Apple) to watch the trailer on your PC, since it's in .mp4 format. If you've got a PSP, you could watch the trailer on that, too.
Once you have what you need,
click here to go to the media page and download the trailer.
Unfortunately, Namco has not announced plans for a North American release yet.
Namco x Capcom is currently scheduled to ship in Japan on May 26.
For more on
Namco x Capcom, check out the
official website.

Alright... the trailer works on my psp now... All I had to do was rename the file to something like M4V00053... no need for a THM file.

I've tried watching this on my PSP but no luck. I need a damn THM file to accompany it. So if anyone has any suggestions... feel free to comment. I've seen the trailer and it looks sweet. I really think it should be on the psp though... just imagine the ecstacy.... AHHH. But seriously, help needed.

They wouldn't HAVE to change all the voice acting, and leaving it in Japanese would be a good thing. Because I can count the games with dubbed voices that didn't make me want to stab out my eardrums on one finger (and that was only because half the cast was Disney and was supposed to speak English anyway).
I wish these companies would just leave the original acting alone in their games instead of ruining them for the US releases (I'd buy a lot more games if they'd leave the Japanese voices in them...)

Alas, i've long since given up on any title with Rockman getting a good translation.
The name changes I can stand, I know that it's too late to go back and fix them. However, they always make Rockman sound, a bit, well, like a midget or something in the US games. At least the US games I've played with voice acting.
As for the rest of the characters, well, considering this game seems to have extensive voice acting, I cannot imagine the companies hiring A quality voice actors for everyone. So I imagine that there will be either a lot of cheap voice acting, or they'll just leave significant portions of it in Japanese.
If they REALLY wanted to impress me, they would give people the option to switch between english and japanese voices, like what Atlus did with Disgaea.
As for the game itself, it looks like it'll be a fun, if albeit, low budget, RPG. If it comes out in the US, I'll seriously consider buying it.

"I wonder who does the animation for the Suikoden and Tales series?"
Suikoden 3's intro was done by Gonzo (Saikano, Samurai 7, Last Exile, Blue Submarine 6). Tales of Symphonia's was by Production IG.

Well, consider all the voice acting work that would need to be done. Leaving it in Japanese would be a little strange for a US-released RPG...

this game looks amazing I think it will come here , they're not going to waste all those characters for nothing (Kingdom hearts or Smash bros anyone) these games are fun and sell great
I would've rather seen this on either PSP or a next gen console though.

"so...how likely are we to see a US release of this?"
From what I've heard, Namco's the one publishing and they don't want to release an esoteric, 2D SRPG in the states this late in the system's lifespan. It's idiotic, but it's Namco. I've also heard rumors to the extent that Capcom's willing to publish it, if necessary, in America, but Namco's not willing to let them. How nice of them, if it's true. :|

Well. Tron's the only one that matters.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's not Bom Bonne or Bon Bonne or whatever, but in fact the Baby Commando from Captain Commando. I was kind of let down at that, but he's still a goofy character.

Tron Bonne and Bon Bonne show up briefly as well.
So I am slightly more excited about this game.

Umm, wow! I am in love with MonolithSoft. I will be preordering this game, assuming it ever comes here... Which seems unlikely.

Jason~ Thanks for the info, I'm a huge anime fan and those are definitely high-profile animes with excellent animation quality. I wonder who does the animation for the Suikoden and Tales series?

People paying close attention may have noticed the anime that features heavily in the trailer is all done by Production I.G., the company behind the animation for the Ghost in the Shell movies and series, as well as doing Jin-Roh, the Patlabor movies, the animation segments in Kill Bill, and teaming with GAINAX on Furi Kuri . Interesting choice, but fitting for a high profile game.

Mega Man Trigger... HELL yes. I'm so glad to see him make a comeback, even if it isn't in a new Legends game...

Wow. So far this looks like a game to buy on release day. Almost entirely because I want a KOS-MOS vs. Roll matchup, haha.

I think it's a strategy RPG with grids, and then when you come into contact with an enemy, it switches to a 2d fighter. It also looks like you can have pairs of characters together on one grid.

Wow, before I'd played the Marvel vs. Capcom series I'd never heard of Captain Commando before--he was a great character, though, and his supers involved his teammates (a ninja, a mummy, and a baby, if I've got that right). Huzzah.

Wow. I didn't think the game would look that cool. Are those battles turn based or is it kind of like 2D fighting with HP and MP? o_O I don't care what it is. But, it looks hella nice.

I hope this comes out here...and I pray that if it does they have a "Japanese voices" option...

It works fine for me the whole way through.

Holy s***, and there's the entire cast of Captain Commando - including Mummy Commando and Baby Commando! And whatsisname the evil cat-thing from Klonoa!
And is it just me, or does the video screw up a bit near the end?

Thanks for the clarification, daislite. :)

that particular Megaman and Roll is from Rockman Dash/Megaman Legends. Nice to see another cameo by them. In addition, they're fighting the final boss of the first game (won't spoil who it is, not that you care), and they're even using the most hideously overpowered weapon in the game (Shining Laser).
I have the sinking fear, though, that if this does come statestide, it won't be with Japanese voices available...

Man, I don't even know most of those characters, but it still looks pretty cool.
