News - ALERT: Do NOT Use Google Web Accelerator!

Normally at GAF, we don't tell you how to browse the internet. We don't tell you which OS to use on your computers (not Windows) or what browser to use (Firefox). And we don't tell you what plug-ins and extensions to use either. However, thanks to
Google we now have one exception.
Google's Web Accelerator is a program that saves you time while browsing the internet. It does this by loading every single link on a page before you click on anything. This is fine for browsing your average web page. But GAF, any forums, any content management systems, and a plethora of other web apps, have several links you do not want to load. Delete functions, adding games to your collection, and other such links actually DO something when they are clicked and Google ignores any and all javascript confirmations along the way.
What does this mean for you? It means that let's say you go to your game collection page with Google Web Accelerator. Your entire collection would then be deleted and some of you GAF users are incredibly overzealous in your game collecting and have hundreds (and a few of you thousands) of games. That's a lot of time wasted due to a program meant to enhance your browsing experience.
For more information on this fiasco, go
here. Remember, we aren't making this recommendation for our benefit. Nothing the Google Web Accelerator does can hurt GAF, but we don't want you to lose your collections on GAF or any other important information you may have lying around the net.

I work at EB and can confrim that whenever a title is slated for the 1st of the month, it means that it will be released sometime within that month. XII has been sitting at a Dec 1st release date for almost a year now in our systems, and isn't really newsworthy. There just isn't a "TBA" release date programmed into our Point Of Sale systems so people project an estimated month and toss the day as the 1st.

Funny, when I look it up it says FFXII comes out on a much later date.
Okay so that's not true, but did you believe me, even for a second? Good for you if you did because EB's release dates are pulled out of thin air, or if you will... very unreliable. Perfect example, they still say that Phantasy Star Trilogy is coming out this year, when they haven't even finished redoing the last game yet.
Besides which Dragon Quest VIII is being released at around the same time, and I don't think that Square-Enix would screw the DQ people over like that by releasing a FF within a few weeks of it.

Apparently, there's a "Do Not Accelerate" list that you can put sites on. I haven't used it myself, but one of my friends told me about it. Just as a heads-up. ^^

Maybe I'll code something for people to find users with the biggest collections. Thing is, I don't want to encourage people to randomly add games just to raise the size of their collection. So I would recommend checking the forum thread dedicated to game collections. A couple of the people on there have pretty gargantuan game collections.

I wanna see some of these huge collections. It would be cool to see a list of users and click their names and be sent to their collections. ^_^

Sometimes I wonder a bit about Google. Did you know they filter through their results and censor news results based on what they percieve to be "quality" news and "non-quality" news?

josh, everything Google puts out except the search engine (which was in beta for a few years as well) is in perpetual beta.
And we haven't confirmed it does that for GAF collections because we wanted to put this warning out before anybody had said problem. Also, we wouldn't want to have a user test it and staff members could possibly delete big chunks of the web site ;P
ahm3d3sa: ummm...FFXII? You're posting that in quite the wrong place.

well its still called a 'beta' so its not like a final product or anything. I heard since google stores stuff you can go somehwere and you coule be logged in as someone else, not about dleeting anything.

I can't believe Google released this in such a buggy state, it's very abnormal for them.
Regardless, Firefox and Flashblock for the win!

Have you guys actually confirmed that GAF collections have been inadvertently deleted by using Google Web Accelerator?
...or is this just theory and FUD?
This sounds like a scheme by Google to get websites to create content that is not so easily manipulated by direct links.
