News - First Dead or Alive 4 screens - Xbox 360

Posted by Josh Freund at 11:52:04 AM EST on 5.12.2005.

Earlier today, 15 screens from what is reportedly Dead or Alive 4 were posted in this thread on the electrolado.net message boards. The thing is, even though DOA 4 is a Xbox 360 title, people aren't sure what system these screens were taken from. Many people who have seen the pics aren't all that impressed, causing them to believe it's running on a Xbox, but others are claiming that they are indeed Xbox 360 shots, saying Team Ninja just hasn't worked on the individual character models that much yet. Then, there are some people who think these aren't even from DOA 4...

One thing's for sure - they're new DOA screens. For now, take a look at them, and think whatever you'd like, until we can get confirmation of what they actually are.

Update: Sources now say that these are indeed Xbox 360 screens of DOA 4.

I think what's really on everyone's mind is this:

When's Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2 coming out?

I Googled, and couldn't find any 1280x720 versions of these screenshots. Could you link me?

BTW, it's Terpfen. E, not A.

the problem with the 2xboxes is that the gap between the xbox and x360 will be the least graphically because the xbox was the most powerful console this gen and x360 might probably be the least next-gen while ps2-ps3 and gamecube-revolution will have a much bigger difference.also the next-gen might be one where specific genres other than fighters can truly showcase the power of the system(like how 2d games can't truly show the real potential of the ps2,though i mean no harm to 2d games which i still love to see them continue next-gen)

It's getting more difficult to tell if the graphics are actually improving or not. If you magnify the images they look very clear, yet since they're still going for an anime look... the only people that this game is going to impress is DOA fans. Maybe not even them.

Omega, the shots are 1024x576. That's not even 720p, meaning it's not HD.

Something that should be pointed out to people is that these are probably shots from an unfinished version of the game and that depending on what stage the game is in the final product may look a lot better.

Heck, even the unfinished game make look alot better if you see it in motion. Still shots don't always do a game justice.

i just noticed that all the shots are widescreen... which would mean that these are indeed hd shots of the game....

sigh.... there's only one good shot in the entire thing and that the christie vs Hitomi shot.

"(unless you're a mediocre developer like Team Ninja)" What team do you work for that is so spectacular? In my opinion, team Ninja put together some of the most solid/unbreakable and technologically challenging games today, they may not be the best games, or the best games design, but I would never question them as a developer. Aside from that lame comment. I think the shots look good, (lighting on the Hyabusa model seems the same as DOAU though....) Looks really nice, for some reason I expected to floored a bit more from Team Ninja, beside the backgrounds the models look similar to those that are on the current Xbox..... the xenon thing is interesting.

Although the graphics look good for this game, I'm personally not too impressed with what I see so far. I don't like to judge the graphics by screens, but if it looks like this, it should definitely play at 60 fps even in HD resolution. I also want to see this in video form so they can show oof how large the levels are in this. If DOA Ultimate let me fight on the Great Wall of China, I want this to let me fight all over China without load times.

Looks less plasticy than DOA3 to me. At 720p, this is gonna look sweet.

Boooooooo on team ninja. The current xbox is completely capable of handling what's shown in these screenshots.

Considering I'm perfectly fine with graphics typically found on a GBA, this may not mean much. However I will say that the graphics here are perfectly satisfactory.

If these are the first wave of next generation graphics, then I may have a really hard time wrapping me head around the last wave when the consoles start reaching thier full maturity.

Sheesh

First reaction: Holy s***!

Second, more subdued reaction: That looks like DOA3 with better texture clarity and improved backgrounds. Are you sure the Xbox can't do that?

Not bad, but certainly doesn't hit you over the head with next-geness... Too bad, because DOA4 would have to do that in order for me to buy it.

Meh.... all though the backgrounds look much more detailed and so does some of the clothing... the character models look almost identical to doa 3 which looked identical to 2.

either way doa to me has never been an in depth fighting game series, it's almost like it was poking fun at the genre. the day that they implement reversals for reversals (ala, VF, tekken, soul calibur) is the day i'll finally give doa credit as a full fighting game.

but on that note doa was always a good party game, and when we're bored we throw it in once in awhile. so i'll be waiting for doa 4 to see it's improvements.

Yeah, maybe... it makes a lot sense.

The female's bust size definitely unnatural so why should they look real? Give them a Barbie bust, might as well give them a Barbie texture.LOL

"Second, the characters look very much like plastic. You'd think with all the skin the females show, they'd at least try to make it look a bit more realistic."
Maybe they were going for that cynical realism.

1) So WHAT if I want to buy the game because of the graphics? I'm tired of jaded and pompous gamers saying that they don't care about graphics at all. It is an important aspect. It's not the most important thing, but it's still important

2) I can't wait to play the game online via the free Xbox Live Silver account (during weekends). I hope the game is online ready.

Nice spot on that xenon launch thing.

Looks next gen to me. Those character models look pretty xbox, but other stuff looks much more detailed and nicer to be xbox. The cherry blossom leaves look pretty detailed.

I want to see more shots of Hayabusa.

I'm not really impressed although fighting games these days aren't really built off graphics (unless you're a mediocre developer like Team Ninja) and more on gameplay. I'm sure DoA4 will just be more rehash of the first three DoAs...

Notice in screen 6 -

"Congratulations (on?) the Xenon Launch!!"

Some of the models look to just but pasted in, not really "connected" to their world. But stuff always looks better in motion.

It's funny, because some things in the screens makes it appear to definitely be next-gen hardware, like, "That couldn't be done on Xbox." But then, some things look like Xbox stuff, which is why people are surprised, mainly about the character models.

#4 sure looks impressive to me.
