Famitsu magazine recently interviewed
Final Fantasy XI producer Hiromichi Tanaka, who brought along some comparative shots of the Xbox 360 version of the MMORPG running next to it's PS2 counter-part. See the difference? No? That's the point. Apparently, the Xbox 360 version will not be taking any special advantage of the hardware and players can expect only a marginal improvement over the PC version. The Beta run of of FFXI for the 360 will begin in November.

Wow... it looks idential to the PC version on a decent computer...
I think I'm going to stop playing when all the Xbox idiots get on it. I'm not to anxious to hear about how high the passing galkas are.

Well if we all remember, the idea in most Japanese RPGs is that all of the animals have gone crazy and started attacking humans. So fighting them is more of a survival instinct because they can kill you. And while I may not be the only one who has a flashback to Monty Python and the Holy grail when killing rabbits in the woods, it's a necessary evil.
BUt I think the reason that these games are so popular is because of community and player interaction. I'm positive that's why Phantasy Star Online lasted so long. Where else but in an online RPG can you gather with other real people with their own ideas and thoughts to go and fight monsters in midevil times and save the world?
Now if we could just get a version of this and PSU for Nintendo Revolution... all will be well.

Well, obviously people that like MMORPGs a lot don't think they are boring, but to people that have lives or anything they get pretty repetitive after killing rabbits or whatever the hell they are in FFXI for the 200th time in a row, all to build your character up enough to start fighting... SHEEP! I feel like a goddamned hero.
I've played WoW, EQ, Guild Wars, and several other MMOs, and they are always just about killing monsters in a retarded, predetermined fashion, and then you can wear your capes or whatever you win to impress other people that have been playing for hours like you to get a cape.

I might be interested if I was only playing with other XBOX 360 owners using the headset. If I was able to talk but others had to type back to me....it would probably suck.

FFXI isn't really boring. There's a reason it's so popular and it's not because it's boring.
Of course if you're talking about PSU, you're just an idiot.

hey, a monthly fee will motivate you to keep playing such a boring game for hours on end!

blkstarr, Phantasy Star Universe will almost certainly have a monthly fee, too.

Hence my common problem with buying MMORPGs, I often hear this complaint thrown around. Of course, that's why I haven't purchased one to date. I hope some one I know buys this one so I can play it and see if it grates my nerves.

Alright, here we go. I love FFXI's story. It's quite possibly one of the best stories to an FF out there. It perfectly works in with everything too, and it's just masterfully directed for an online game. On the PC, the graphics don't look too bad while the PS2's graphics can make it look like a bit of ass. But the story, the character designs and the music (which is beautifully done for not being totally by Uematsu) are absolutely gorgeous.
However, I have an extreme loathing of the battle system. It's almost as if Square Enix wants its players to spend extreme amounts of time and headaches trying to gussy up each of their jobs. They recently lowered the experience caps needed after level 50, but even then, the game is still an absolute hell to traverse through. Each battle can become so insanely monotonous, so boring... Everything becomes a chore. This isn't always the case for MMORPGs now though, and they seriously need to upgrade some things.
I don't understand Square Enix. Why do they put up warnings against spending too much time online before people start the game, then pretty much force people to sell their souls to Lucavi in order to get ahead. This is just going to be a huge repeat too... I'm disappointed already.
In case you didn't realize before, I'm horribly bitter.

Well I would consider it for one. I don't care if the game LOOKS last generation, I'll play it because it'll feel otherwise. If it was a fun game before, it'll be one then. (Hell, with some of the 360 games, these won't be that out of place) My only concern is the monthly fee that will be incurred. I hate those, but I know they are needed. If that's the case, I think I'll just pick up Phantasy Star Universe instead. (Now there's a double whammy)

I'll say it first: Who would buy a game with graphics that are openly previous-generation after spending so much money on a next-gen system? What the crap?
