Remember the classic
Ghouls 'n Ghosts? Yeah, that game where you died 50 times before getting to level 2? Well, if you enjoyed that, the latest issue of Famitsu has some good news for you.
Capcom is making an all-new (not a port or remake), 2D (
2.5D, really)
Ghouls 'n Ghosts game for PSP. It's titled
Goku Makaimura (
Extreme Ghouls 'N Ghosts in English).
Extreme will look and play similar to past
GNG titles, but there are some new features. First off, for those who don't know,
GNG is a side-scrolling platformer that has lots of nasty enemies and even nastier jumps to master. As you progress through
Extreme, you'll be able to earn new abilities, such as double jumping, flying, and various magic spells, as well as new weapons.
Another feature new to the series is open-endedness. In previous titles, there was one set path you had to take.
Extreme will have multiple branches you can take throughout the levels, as well as warp points which can take you back to previous levels, so that you can get items previously inaccessible to you.
It looks like the wait to see
Extreme Ghouls 'N Ghosts won't be a long one - Capcom will have a playable build of the game ready for the Tokyo Game Show, which begins on September 16. A Japanese release date has not been announced yet, and Capcom has not mentioned plans for a North American release.

Rahnyc, that's where you're wrong. They do like 2D games, just in compilations & double packs, or in half 2D/half 3D(check out games like Megaman X7 & X8), or even have 2D play with 3D backgrounds, like MMX8. PSP is a different story, because sony has a no direct port policy on PSP. It does deserve to be on sony's consoles or any other consoles.

I'm more interested in the Capcom Collection including the first 3 GnG games on it, (among many others, and yes there were 3) on it. And while Capcom reels in all the money from their collection games, Konami pretends that no one wants to play Castlevanias, Contras, Gradius games or any other other of their "old" games.

The original GnG game made me angry.
ANGRY!
I trust they'll fix things for this version. Games in general are much easier now than they were in the NES days.

Awesome, a PSP game that would actually be worth buying. I guess since I already have the hardware I may as well buy a game for it.
Also, for those of you complaining that you are not going to get a PSP because it's so expensive, do what I did, convince a friend who has one and doesn't use it to sell it to you for $150.

I'm sure this GnG game will be good on PSP along with Street Fighter Alpha 3 (why Capcom chose that SF game when 3rd Strike would have done, especially for u.k/eu, I'll never know).
However, I'm still not buying a PSP until that price comes down. Strange thing in contrast is that the DS has already had a price cut stateside even though it's doing well, but Sony haven't responded with a similar move for PSP. Totally insane.

This will be one of the couple of games that will eventually strong arm me into buying a PSP.

Apparently the engine is 3d, but if it's really a 2D game I can add it to my list. If it's not.. I'll pass. I have Makaimura on GBC and GBA.

oops. I meant player OR the PSP battery!

Maybe Capcom wanted to see whether the player of the PSP battery will die first? ;)

The Symphony of the Night comparison seems a little spurious. If anything it sounds more like Castlevania 3, but with warp points.

It's been a while since there's been any real good gaming news for PSP (no, 2.0 doesn't count), so this is good news. I almost forgot I bought a PSP so I can play games.

It uses a 3D graphics engine, aparently. I don't know if this is 2.5D or not.
Anyhow, a new G&G game is welcome, regardless.

I find it funny that a portable that is selling 20k a week in japan is on it's knees, i mean is selling more per week that what the GC used to sell when it was popular...
C'mon people don't talk only to talk, ok maybe is not selling like the DS, that is true, but don't think Japan is the only market in the world, i mean the PSP is outselling by a large margin the DS in Usa every month in both the hardware and Software department (yes even software)...
So Don't Think that because it's third selling 20k a week is on it's knees...
P.s: No i Don't have a PSP and don't have in mind to buy it until a see good games being released and anounced and also because of the homebrew, but right now i don't have any intention of buying one...

A 2D game on the PSP? It'll sell like crap!

Why oh why PSP? Why not a console people own like PS2? I'm a huge fan of the series, I'd love to play the game, but I'm not buying a PSP for it.
Capcom are morons. Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 flopped on PS2 and sold well on GC, and yet the VJ fighing game is going to PSP too. They just keep on trying to screw Nintendo over more.
Pleeeeeeaaase come out on any other platform instead. Yes, ANY other platform. I'm not buying a AU$400 machine that's already on it's knees in Japan.
