We're continuing the Tales goodness with
Tales of Destiny screenshots. This remake is a little more remade than the
Phantasia one, with new graphics, revised battle system, and rewritten story lines. And just like the PSP remake, this one will feature full fledged voice acting as well.

I agree that ps2 has the potential for great graphics, 3d or otherwise, however 2d games are still amazing such as SFA, this tod, and of course the plethora of other 2d fighting games. Ah well, our debate here wont get games localized, excuse me while I go take SE and Namco hostage so I get my games.

Gon, of course there was 2d games for PS1. PS1 was still such a weak console that even the most average 2d graphics looked better than 99,9% of its games with 3d graphics. That all changed on PS2. It can produce 3d graphics good enough that it won't make your eyes bleed and *gasp* may actually look great. Also, there are other advantages to good 3d graphics.

Write namco right now and ask them why new tales games wont come out on psp and ps2, they wont say anything about sony, they probably wont say anything actually. Sure sony is a pain to deal with, we all know major corporations arem but companies CAN work around them. Working Designs, capcom, square, and Koei are a few companies that have released constant 2d games over the years. From Arc the Lad, to SFA and Saga Frontier 2, heck even thereekingdoms games are ALL 2d. Namco wont release Tales of games here for the same reason SE wont release FM5, they aren%u2019t marketable. FM5 will never be released any time soon as SE is all about profit, and it wont b e profitable, they just lived off DQ8 and KH2, and made millions, FF12 will soon follow. Why divert money and resources to a game that wont sell? The North American Market is saturated by high budget games from long running successful series, such as Final Fantasy. Look how long Star Ocean took to come out over here, many reasons contributed to this, one of them being enix doubting it%u2019s marketability.
Zoom over to the tales series, you have two LOW selling psx titles, and one block buster game cube title. Look at the gamecube market: no high budget FF, no high profile published games, just a bunch of s***ty %u201Cme too%u201D games, none of which are true rpgs. Tales of Symphonia of course will be a blockbuster because namco did very smart marketing (heck the ToS forums are still running) and due to the amount of NA GC owning rpg fans the game did great. Most ps2 owners only want their 3d rpgs and action games, hence the average ps2 owner probably wouldn%u2019t buy ToD2 or tales of Rebirth, however with the success of ToS this MAY change. Hopefully namco will try. Remember Namco America (or hometek or whatever they consolidated to) isn%u2019t about making games, they are about making money.
As for ubisoft publishing toe in Europe it is just like when sony abandoned arc the lad and wild arms series in north America, leaving other studios to publish. Namco doesn%u2019t have the best presence in Europe and probably didn%u2019t want to waste the resourced pushing a port of a low selling psx game in Europe.
Short point (sorry I rambled) Sony is jerky sometimes in localization but in the end it is namco%u2019s fault for not localizing these games.

Actually, yes, Sony Computer Entertainment AMERICA does "hate" 2d games. You didn't get Tales of Eternia for the PSP, but SCEE let Ubisoft release the game here. SCEA is the one to blame, SCEJ and SCEE don't have too much problems with 2d games, although sometimes if some 2d game isn't released in NA, it won't be released in Europe either.

lol, I looked at a release list and Disgaea 2 wasn't on it so it didn't get counted. Atelier Iris 2, I overlooked.
Look at SNK. King of Fighters NeoWave, multiple Samurai Showdown games, King of Fighters XI, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, Metal Slug and then King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2.
Now....which of those is coming out here? Ohh look at that, it's the 3D fighter.
Here's my deal. What I care about, are 2D FIGHTING games, coming out over here. Are they? No. They are not. Is that because SNK doesn't want them to? No! They've stated in multiple interviews that they've tried to get them released over here. So who might be stopping them?
Take a guess.
And yes, I WILL ignore the games in the past because I'm not talking about the past. You're just going off in your own little tangent to make yourself feel better.
So yeah, I'm done. Go to hell.

"Sure, I have looked at a release list. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is the only 2D fighting game released this entire year so far and the only slated to come out here. And it's a compilation. For cheap."
So I guess Atelier Iris 2, Disgaea 2, and a few others don't matter, because if third parties don't choose to bring out new 2D games on consoles in a time when 2D is largely considered a format best suited for modern handhelds, well, it must be Sony's fault! It can't be because 3D is now the de facto standard way of making games, and third parties have consciously chosen to make new games that way.
Nope, let's just ignore the massive list of 2D games released during the PSOne and PS2's lifespan, and just focus on the fact that since there isn't a flood of 2D games on the horizon, it's Sony's fault because they won't approve new 2D games.
You have fun there.

There is not one single 2D game on the PS2's release list for the next year.
Yeah, have fun with your reality.
Also, Wild Arms wasn't just a 2D game. It had horrifically bad 3D battles too. Did Sony release a lot of 2D games for a time? Yes. Yes they did. Do they NOW? No.

"Except Sony DOES hate 2D. Or at least, they are strong believers that 2D games do not sell at all and will not release them on PS2 in the US unless they are part of a compilation or are very cheap."
No, they don't. Look at a release list sometime.
"Sony computer entertainment AMERICA (key words here...) hating 2d was back in the Psx days, as in 1996."
Sony wanted only 3D games to differentiate their console from the SNES, Genesis, and upcoming Saturn. Whatever "we hate 2D" policy they had has been long since repealed, yet this stupid meme won't die.
Sony themselves took the lead in publishing 2D games in America. Anyone remember Beyond the Beyond? I know it hurts, but it was a 2D game. How about Wild ARMs? Yeah, Sony translated and published that one too. Then there are all the third-party 2D games on the PSX, and a not-quite-similar-amount-but-still-a-metric-f***ton of 2D games on the PS2.
Sorry, guys. "Sony hates 2D" falls apart upon contact with reality.

Sony computer entertainment AMERICA (key words here...) hating 2d was back in the Psx days, as in 1996. They only wanted games that showed off the ps's super engine or something, which was ratehr foolish as fully 3d games didn't come around till much later. Namco chooses to not bring these games over. ToS onyl sold so well because it was, and still is the only decent RPG for GC.

Yeah, the game's not 3D enough so Sony probably isn't going to bring it over."
Can we really stop with this "Sony hates 2D" myth? It falls apart when confronted with reality.
The games aren't coming over because Namco USA hasn't been able to make the Tales series popular, not because Sony hates 2D. End of story.

Yeah, the game's not 3D enough so Sony probably isn't going to bring it over. 'Sides, the original PS version didn't have great sales from what I remember.
I really hope this game plays a lot better than the original though cuz Tales of Destiny is one of the Tales games that I did not like (although I only played like 6 of them .... only fully completed 2, however! XD XD)
Actually, I'd probably still not like this remake because Leon is in it. LOATHE that kid.

Niiiiice!
Destiny and Destiny 2 (the real one), although are not very popular, are my favorite Tales games. I'm glad this one is getting the attention it deserves. It's been a long time since I've actually been interested in the Tales series.

And finally, Namco revisits the only other Tales game besides Phantasia that's actually good. This game deserves a competent localization.

Most definitely using a version of the engine used for Tales of Rebirth. I want this a LOT but it'll never come out over here. Looks GREAT.
