Our first look at
Sim City DS comes courtesy of
Famitsu magazine. Take a look at the scan below:
As
reported earlier today,
Sim City DS will be based on the PC's
SimCity 3000. It's being developed by EA and is set for a winter release in Japan. A US release has not yet been announced, but it's pretty much guaranteed to happen.
Sim City DS will of course feature stylus controls, as well as new mini-games and an advisor (who looks curiously like a certain famous
Sim game designer). In addition to the regular "Build a New City" mode, there will be a "Save the City" mode, in which you have to fix problems (such as traffic congestion) in a pre-made city, and a "Sister City" mode, in which you can talk with other city builders and trade landmarks and such (this mode appears to be online).

Neo GAF is short for "Neo Gaming Age Forums", probably the most prolific video game discussion message board on the internet. Huge user base, lots of overseas news, even developers and game journalists are known to be registered and post there regularly.

If they can release this at a $20 price point, I'd grb it for sure. I'm not really sold on the wifi functionality though. Seems kind of pointless.
Did SimCity ever have any online functionality for the PC?

Nice - it looks like the Sister City feature lets you exchange messages with other "mayors" over wireless, and also it looks like they can name landmarks and such. It's probably also required to get some of the items for the mayor's collection room.

the pc version of this was great, and it looks just like it actually, though probably heavily shrunk and anti-aliased. if i hadn't played it to death already i'd be so there.

...Wow, that reminds me of the SNES Sim City. If it's anything like it AT ALL then it's going to be great! Though it's awfully hard to mess up a Sim City game.

in my eyes over the past year(or two, whatever) or so ds went from one of the worst systems ever to easily one of the best.
hell, personally I think it has the greatest lineup of any of the new consoles, and one of the best lineups of any consoles.
