Continuing with the
Square Enix announcements, a new DS RPG by the
Kingdom Hearts team has been revealed. It's called
Subarashiki Kono Sekai, or in a more understandable form,
It's a Wonderful World.
Details are scarce, but here's what we do know:
-character design by Tetsuya Nomura (designer for the
KH titles)
-set in the present
-"touch action RPG"
-cel-shaded style
Take a look:
Update - IGN has translated some details.
It's a Wonderful World will take place in Japan, mainly in the Shibuya region, and will feature real-world landmarks like Scramble Crossing and 109 shopping mall.
The main character is Neku, a boy who has the special ability to read others' hearts. He meets a girl named Tsuki, and they end up being "forced to play a mysterious game" in Shibuya.
The battle system sounds unique. Two battles will take place at the same time - one on the top screen and one on the bottom screen.

Because of all the hype that surrounded KHII, and all the delays, I personally felt that the second kingdom hearts wasn't as compelling as the first. It was almost like mindless button mashing because the difficulty was easy (granted I was playing on normal mode)even with the "press triangle at the proper times for a special effects attack!!!".
And when I finished the game, it didn't leave me feeling that I've completed something great.
The only things that were satisfying was beating Sephiroth, and viewing the special secret CG movie about KHIII.

Cancid:
''looks very interesting to me. I love the KH team, and whenever speaking about KH2 I always have to mention that that game ends with you feeling like a god.''
When I finished KHII, I felt ripped off.

Hey that looks like sora...
And Its a wonderful world reminds me of Disney...
Anyway...
The battle system sounds extremly cool. Plus if that means you can cut down on random battles by having two at once then...HELL YEA!
This must come Stateside.

I'm confused. So you described EVERYTHING that KH2 had, as existing in KH1? KH2 had far more mobs, far larger areas (with some exceptions)...
I mean, when was the last time you played KH1? In comparison to 2, all the areas are friggen TINY.

yeah, it does look to have a very Jet Set Radio feel to it, but I like that. The super-bold lines in tetsuya's art is getting a bit excessive, though. :/

I just keep looking at it and seeing Riku, Sora and Kairi. It looks slick, though.

KH1 was definitely superior to KH2, in my opinion. KH1 actually had *LEVELS*, and I liked that aspect. You actually journeyed in them, went through various levels, etc. In KH2 each level was about half the size, if that, than one in KH1. Double the levels, half the size. Also, there seemed to be *much* more fighting in KH1 than in KH2. In KH2, you'd fight a few mobs, then a cutscene. Wait 10 minutes. Then you walk around a bit, find a small little area with a few mobs, fight them, then another 10 minute cutscene. I absolutely *love* the fighting, but I didn't feel like I did much of it in KH2, and if it wasn't due to the lack of areas to fight mobs, it was the lack of mobs in an area where they were.

"Kingdom Hearts sucks b/c it's nothing more than fan service for people who are love Disney and Square, and provides nothing compelling gameplay wise except spamming the X button."
LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Kingdom Hearts series has more substance than many other RPGs together. Sorry if you can't see it, but there really is tons of themes and things that well... can be missed if you don't pay attention or aren't interested. Just the complexity of everything (but gameplay) in the game is overwhelming. Besides, you have to push an occasional square and triangle (not to mention O and X) in KH2. KH1 was a X-button smashfest, but KH2 certainly isn't.

Haha, leave it to terpfen to set the record straight whether it's about console numbers or female VG character shorts' length. :P
In any case, I'm always down for some more action-RPG lovin'. Like cainkid, I'm a bit skeptical that the touch control scheme might seem awkward or gimmicky, but I'm hopin' for the best. The more Square love on the DS, the better.

looks very interesting to me. I love the KH team, and whenever speaking about KH2 I always have to mention that that game ends with you feeling like a god. That's all I want, compelling story, connect with my characters, feel freakin amazing at the end. That game did it all for me.
Give that to me, and I'll overlook your "touch action" rpg style. Which there is a 70% chance will suck eggs.

"Christ, the girl with the big hat sure does like to wear her shorts low."
No different than Yuffie or Rikku.

I'm kind of wondering how thin the KH team can spread themselves what with FFVSXIII being a marquee game. But I suppose a 2.5-D quirky haldheld game can still be good with less time investment.
The battles look almost like they have rhythm-game elements. Could be interesting. Worth keeping an eye on, at least.
Of course, another good question is given how Shibuya-centric it is, will it even come out in the US? But perhaps Tetsuya's Nomura's gotten popular enough now that it can sell on that basis alone.

Christ, the girl with the big hat sure does like to wear her shorts low. Also agreeing that my favorite works of his were FFVIII. Since then, his style for his own projects has gotten a lot bolder in terms of lines. That's nice, I like the bold effect, but his emphasis on trying to make characters seem cooler can go too far. I'm looking at you, Vivi in KH2.

"...provides nothing compelling gameplay wise except spamming the X button."
Isn't that essentially 90% of all square-enix games?
Don't get me wrong, I love 'em but the actual "gameplay" is quite lacking in a few departments.

Meanwhile, some gamers continue to hope for a day when their main character DOESN'T have Square-hair.

Good to know that Nomura can rip off Beatmania IIDX's characters too. I like the designs more than his KH stuff but I still think FF8 had his best work.

I really like the style (although the one character's turtle neck dealy is annoying). I'm definitely interested. Square Enix is sure hopping on the DS bandwagon!

This game looks quite a bit more compelling than that.

Anyway, nice to see that the KH team is large enough that they can do both a PS3 game (FF Versus XIII) and a DS game.
