News - First Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion (PSP) images & details

Posted by Josh Freund at 09:38:57 PM EST on 10.7.2006.

The latest issue of OPM has a feature on the newly announced The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion title for PSP, along with the first images of the game.

Unlike its big brother on 360/PS3/PC, Oblivion on PSP will be a dungeon-crawler -- no wide-open landscapes here. According to executive producer Todd Howard, the game will feature 10 large levels that look much like areas in the console versions, but are more concentrated.

Other than the landscape, though, the core gameplay such should be familiar to Oblivion players. "We have 18 out of the 21 original skills from Oblivion...you have all the core attributes and perks; all that stuff is still there. That functionality is all parallel."

As for the controls, the designers interestingly say they were influenced by Metroid Prime. The analog stick will allow you to move forward, backward, and turn sideways. Holding L will allow you to strafe, and holding R will let you look around the area from your character's perspective.

Below, you can take a look at the first images (low-quality scans) of Oblivion for PSP:

The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion is due out in 2007.

18 of the 21 skills are coming to the PSP version. I hope they get rid of the more useless skills that plague almost all the TES games.

Although some of those useless skills make it much easier for leveling purposes.

Just think of Nintendo as one of the industry's teachers. In that sense, yeah, people "copy," or rather learn, from their methods. It's only annoying if the students mock their teachers or something and treat them like they're old dogs and has beens. (Yes, I'm imparting a message here and about giving teachers some respect in classes). Now where's that chalk?

the dungeons were my least favorite part of Oblivion. I hated them, and only when inside when it was necessary.

and since this game is nothing buy dungeons, i won't be picking it up.

It looks okay, but I'm not a huge fan of dungeon crawlers (although I'm still a huge Diablo fan, go figure). I'll still get this since my PSP library is lacking in games...

I already have Oblivion for the PC. I don't think I'll be needing this. >_>;

I'd buy it. Though I'm not sure what I did with my PSP....
Anywhoo, GAF aint nintendo biased. Maybe most of the readers are, but who cares?

I'm just not really interested because it's merely a dungeon crawler and not a full TES game. Though that's expected.

I assume this is first-person perspective only? If it is, I'll forget about picking this up.

I wish we had some nice, clear screenshots, but those will come in time. I had the theory that this game would look kind of bad, but it may not be the case. I also wonder just how fun this game can be as a completely dungeon-oriented thing. And will it have long load times?

You guys had to go and say that... you're gonna start yet another war in here over how it's impossible for someone to copy someone and how much GAF is pro-nintendo... I understand it's your guys' opinions, but seems like everything is just balancing on the edge of knife between war and peace...

On topic: It'll move PSPs, but not enough to balance out the charts. I'm not saying the PSP is dead (it's still alive, unlike the NGAGE), and this will help along with Vice City Stories, but it still has a bit of an uphill battle. I believe that is something we ALL can agree on.

"toiletduckbaby 10.7.2006 at 09:47:00 PM
must everyone copy nintendo?"

It's nearly impossible given how long they have been around. I'm not stroking Nintendo here, I'm just gonna quote South Park

"Simpson's did it."
