I thought that the numbers sold of Dragon Quest Swords was a bit off even if 263,000 would have been a great number. Famitsu and several other gamecharts had it at around 300,000-310,000 copies sold and that´s a difference of 40,000 copies. I checked Media Creates site and d.lo are right about the numbers. There are indeed 305,254 copies sold of the game.

Hmm... so normal service resumed in the Japan charts then.

Are you guys going to fix DQS's sales? They were actually 305,254, but NeoGaf made a mistake and everyone has copied it!

"No, Capcom needs to let the following series either stay dead or die:

MM, MMX, MMZ, MM Battle Network (I love how the creators said they were ending BN, then introduced a series that was a complete clone of it), and if the first ZX is any indication, that one, too."

No way. Why kill the original series? Isn't that what started it all? If anything, that should be the ONE series to survive. Or at least give us a proper conclusion so we can stop speculating what happens between Mega Man & Bass and the first Mega Man X.

I'm really impressed by Phantom Hourglass. Consistency like this is something the Zelda series has not enjoyed in quite some time.

It's no NSMB or Pokemon, but it's going to be a solid million-seller in Japan. I can't wait to get my hands on that game.

The last Mega Man game I loved was Network Transmission for Gamecube... and before that the last game I loved was X4. So I'm not really a big fan of the newer games. I thought ZX was pretty solid though, so perhaps I'll give Advent a try as well.

scarecrow9, I was referring to the software sales. There was a time where the charts were just PS2 games.

I've been hearing positive things from Japanese NeoGAFers about this game. They said it's a really nice mix on the typical menu turn-based, RPG style. It's a day one purchase for me when it releases in NA.

jekku, Nintendo was never dead.

XBOX just got in Gamecube's way, end of story.

ALL the games which would've come for the GC came out for the XBOX instead.

At least the GC was doing better than the XBOX in Japan =).

In the end it was doing pretty well.

I liked ZX *waves tiny flag* The map was annoying sure, but the boss fights were top notch.

I'll admit it wasn't as good as the Zero series, but ZX was the first Megaman platformer on the DS, so maybe they've adjusted better now with ZXA. Like how Zero 1 felt a little weird on GBA for the first time. Then they made Zero 2...wow

Looks like DQ, LoZ will be joining the million club quite soon.

I never understood the fascination with MegaMan Legends. I always thought it was subpar and Legends II barely brought it to mediocrity. Tron Bonnie was the best of the bunch by far and half of that was because it wasn't nearly as absurd as Legends.

I loved the Mega Man games back years ago, but stopped keeping up with the series around MMX. I've never been very interested in picking them up, even after sampling them at E3. It's partly because there are a good 30 of them every year. If they take a few years off and have a comeback Mega Man, I'd be much more interested in playing it.

"(I love how the creators said they were ending BN, then introduced a series that was a complete clone of it)"

Please don't compare Starforce with Battle Network. It may have it's similarities, but it just seems to be a butchery of the series. BN had an amazing battle system which is unrivaled by any other encounter based RPG I've ever played, and unless there's a lot more to Starforce than meets the eye, it looks like it's going to ruin it. BN without an incredible battle system would just be awful.

My HouseKeeping Diary would be good for me. It would help me weed out all the potential hanger-on girlfriends I might have.

"Hey, before you move in, would you be interested in keeping up with this?"

No, Capcom needs to let the following series either stay dead or die:

MM, MMX, MMZ, MM Battle Network (I love how the creators said they were ending BN, then introduced a series that was a complete clone of it), and if the first ZX is any indication, that one, too. ZX has one more chance with me, the first game as terrible and a huge strike against it to begin with.

Megaman is in dire need of a Legends revival. The only good Megaman games to come from Capcom for ten years, and that's the series they DON'T whore to death.

I don't care what system it's on; PSP, Wii, 360, PS3, f***, they could put it out on the SNES and I'd jump on it.

Not to be pedantic, joesteele, but I note that I don't see the word "game" anywhere in the article. It says "Japanese software sales".

(Obviously we're not talking PCs here though, so it's software sales for consoles and handhelds. Housekeeping Diary is that.)

Mega Man isn't dead. The problem is that Capcom needs to bring back the original series and stop with all of these spin-offs and side games.

I'll admit, MMZX Advent didn't do all that great in terms of first week sales for a Mega Man game, but at least it made the top 10. That's something.

joesteele 7.19.2007 at 07:41:03 AM
neat chart this week, but riddle me this:

Why the f*** is "My Housekeeping Diary" on this damn list? It sure as hell doesn't sound like a game. Even if you pop in a DS cart and turn it on, it doesn't make it a game if it contains, say, a virus, a word processor, or even *gasp* a web browser. The fact that this is up on this list is shameful, I'm sorry to say.

*end rant*

Plentyofpaper is right. The 20GB PS3 is about $405 in Japan, the 60GB is about $485. The price can vary slightly depending on the yen vs. dollar conversion but the bottom line is the PS3 has been the cheapest in Japan since its launch. The PS3 needs games in Japan. I mean the X-box 360 has more JRPGs than the PS3. It someone would have told me that two years ago, I would laughed in their face.

"No PS2 games, and no PS3 games, I hope this will change with the new PS3 price."

No price drop in Japan. There price was low since launch.

As for the lack of interest in Megaman... to me, the 2 new serieses just seem like worse versions of the last 2. ZX is essentially like the first Megaman Zero which was the worst in the sub-series, and Starforce looks like Megaman Battle Network with an awkward perspective and your not allowed to move off the back row. Regardless, I'll probably pick up ZXA since Capcom generally impvores #2 in each series dramatically, and I'll pick up Starforce so I can at least give it a chance.

My problem with the ZX games are the simplicity of them. Zero was a much better made series with a lot more to work for. ZX just feels nerfed by comparison.

I can't wait for all those game to make it stateside. I personal want Vision training.

You would have thought that with the recent 1,000,000th PS3 sold in Japan and price cuts coming that there would have been at least 1 PS3 game ranking in the top 10 somewhere but it seems the Nintendo juggernaut is just to strong right now.

The next half of the year and Christmas season will be vital for Sony as I believe they are at the make or break point. They have enough units sold at the moment to have some momentum in moving software which will drive up demand for the console around the time price drops roll around and will encourage some of the bigger studios spending millions on PS3 projects that PS3 is still worth investing in. On the other hand if they can't start making a dent in the software charts now and have some a library of solid titles by Christmas than I really do think that the PS3 will flounder and never be a challenge to Nintendo (inside Japan and world wide) or Microsoft in the West.

Count on me getting ZXA. And one of the versions of Starforce.

I understand Classic is the Megaman that's an "icon" and not any of the new ones, but why the sudden drop of interest by the public? Was the transition into MMX too much?

Mega Man is practically dead in Japan. It's sad, too.

Well, I'll be picking up a copy of ZX Advent at least.

I wanted ZXA to do better (selling less than Wii Play in its 33rd week?!), but considering how ZXA lacks in some regards, this is no surprise.

Still worth the purchase, though.

Well, this is DQS:TMQATTOM.

palafox: If this were DQ IX, it would be on the DS, and the sales would be closer to a million. This is the spinoff title for Wii that's like DQ Yangus.

Also, wth @ My Housekeeping Diary.
