Wiis??? Were?
I was 10 days in Miami and searched every store (Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Big KMart, Sawgrass Mills Mall, etc etc) and didn't ever see one on sale.
Pity because I'm from Chile were the Wii cost US$400.

A month ago I was still thinking that the Wii didnt exist , that every thing was publicity coming from Nintendo and made up, but now and then I see a Wii in stores.

Wii supply is doing just fine. There are used and new ones in about every single market I`ve been to, and that`s 4 cities, cuz I`ve been travelling. It seems to be everywhere and DS lite too. The most "sold out" product is Xbox 360 Premium, because they don`t sell at all. The next big thing seems to be the new PSP, and they expect it to be huge. Crisis Core is coming out soon too, they have huge commercials and posters everywhere about it.

DS seems to be a hit among older women and men, since they have "simple DS" games coming out. Plus all those english and brain training stuff is quite popular. Wii seems to be a family thing, always young people or families browsing Wii games and thinking what is simple and fun.

It's cool that you've taken the time to do your research d.lo, but I still wonder how reliable a few people's opinions in blogs are at representing the country as a whole. There are a hellava lot of people in Japan. Obviously there's more evidence to suggest supply problems then just word of mouth, but you gotta admit, the Wii hasn't been awash with top notch software for a while now. It's entirely possible that the public are holding off for the next big release, like they do with other consoles.

Has the Wii ever steadily decreased each week for a month since it launched?

"But is it? How long can we go on blaming supply?"

Um, until it's not true?

Seriously, go look at some Google translations of Japanese blogs (like Sinobi). And the DS was supply constrained for more then a year, so why is it so surprising? The Wii's sales jump up and down all the time for no reason, whereas everything else sells steadily unless there's a big game release (eg PS3 sat around 10k for like 15 weeks).

"that is the ONLY reason for the drop."

But is it? How long can we go on blaming supply? It could just be that games don't sell so well this time of year. If it were a holiday season, I'd have less doubts.

"I know the PS3 is still a long way behind, but this is the closest the two machines weekly sales have been in a long time. Will the trend continue?..."

No, they were closer after Gundam Musou, and that didn't continue.

And as has already been mentioned, the Wii is supply constrained, that is the ONLY reason for the drop.

Isn't this the 3rd or 4th week in a row where the Wii has had a significant drop in sales? I know the PS3 is still a long way behind, but this is the closest the two machines weekly sales have been in a long time. Will the trend continue?...

Saw them at Target in California while I was vacationing back at home. Admittedly, it was 8AM right at opening (I needed some blank CD's for a car trip), so I don't know how long they lasted. There were about five of 'em.

Neko, which store did you see the wii's? I my self have seen 4 Wii's in Walmart, 3 was sold that day but it seems as though this Christmas is going to be crazy if you work at an electronic store selling VG.

Btw those sale numbers mean nothing, this is the calm before the hurricane.

I was trying to figure out what the hell UNCH was....

I wonder why the PS2 and GBM were the only ones to increase

I've heard that Xbox360s are starting to be more obtainable in Japan.

"I've heard that Wiis are starting to be more easily obtainable in Japan."

Only to the extent that it takes a day for them to sell out, rather then an hour. As far as week;y charts are concerned, it's still 100% supply constrained.

Also, it looks like Wii will pass GCN in October or November (assuming higher supply for holdays and big releases), same with DS and PS2.

LOL at everyone who said the PS3 sales wouldn't drop. I fully expect another 5,000 drop next week, if not more.

Also, what's with the Wii and DS drop offs, ouch.

On another issue, I actually saw 5 Wii's in one day (all in the same store, actually). First time I've seen Wii's in stock, other than at launch when I got mine.

Massive losses on the GBA front, with 100% losses over last week. We must be reaching the end of its lifecycle... That is to say, I guess they're running out of copies on store shelves, while the GBM is one of the two consoles that gained this week...
