News - Latest Famitsu scores - Crisis Core: FF VII, Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon

Posted by Josh Freund at 10:50:06 PM EST on 9.4.2007.

A small batch of scores this week, but three games over the 30 points mark, including one very significant title. That title is none other than Crisis Core, the long-awaited action RPG spinoff of Final Fantasy VII for PSP. It looks like Square Enix pulled it off - if you trust Famitsu's reviewers, that is. The game got three 9s and one 8, making for a total of 35/40. Not too shabby.

The latest Rogue-style Pokemon title from Chunsoft was also awarded a 35/40. For reference, 2005's Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games received the same total score. The third title to score over 30 is EA's Wii version of SSX (their snowboarding franchise), which is just now making its way to Japan after being released in North America back in February.

PSP - Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix) - 9 / 9 / 8 / 9 (35/40)
NDS - Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon (Chunsoft) - 9 / 9 / 9 / 8 (35/40)
Wii - SSX Blur (EA SPORTS BIG) - 8 / 8 / 7 / 8 (31/40)
PSP - Fate/Tiger Colosseum (Cavia) - 7 / 6 / 6 / 6 (25/40)
PS2 - Shikaku Tantei: Sora no Sekai - Thousand Dreams - (NIne'sFox) - 6 / 5 / 6 / 7 (24/40)
NDS - I Love Dolphin (Starfish) 7 / 5 / 5 / 5 (22/40)
Wii - The Monkey King (Starfish) - 4 / 4 / 5 / 4 (17/40)
PS3 - Megazone 23: Aoi Garland - 4 / 3 / 4 / 4 (15/40)

make a new story about shiren 3 (check Famitsu's site and the scans no doubt taken from neogaf) so more people can be excited about the superior roguelike experience

Why did Nabulsi get -karma for saying he wants a ffvii remake? That's ridiculous.

I think that FF VII CC looks like a fun game, and it seems to have scored well. I just may borrow my friend's psp for this.

If they're anything like FFXII then no thank you. It was a chore just to play that game. The story sucked and the characters sucked. I'm not one of these people scared to say anything bad about the FF series. Apart from FFX the series has gradually gotten worse since FFVII.

Everytime I see 'FF VII' in a news title my heart jumps to the hope that the remake has finally been announced.

Boy how many times I've been disappointed...

Egg, just to be clear: Tri-Crescendo made Radiata Stories - Squeenix merely published it. Tri-Crescendo broke off from Tri-Ace shortly after the game was released. Trusty Bell is practically Radiata 2 in a lot of ways; the graphic design and battle system are very clearly evolutions of what they did in Radiata.

It really is interesting too; I hated Radiata with a passion for a while, but ultimately found myself liking the game in the end. At least Tri-Crescendo addressed almost all the complaints people had about Radiata in Trusty Bell.

Sorry for the tangent.

Pity about Megazone 23. I know, the vast majority of licensed anime games suck, but you'd think if they were going to pull out such an old franchise (as opposed to the current cash-in of the day) it'd be to make a game that wasn't completely terrible. But apparently not.

They put out Radiata Stories. That was both good and original. And Valkyrie Profile 2 was wonderful.

If you're going by developed and not just published, I felt FF12 was actually extremely good. Heroes of Mana is actually decent too.

Crisis Core is pretty much Square-Enix last shot at redeeming this whole god-awful Compilation of FFVII series. But seriously, they have not put out a good game in a long time, everything recent has been a dud.

I probably shouldn't even touch it considering the cemetary of negative karma that followed, but I quite agree with eggmanimn on SSX - good game. Needs more polish, and you just know there'll be a better one next year, but it was still fun.

The day I got Sonic Riders, I'd have scored it 5/10.
Now, in my book, it stands at about 8.5/10.

Famitsu might have made the same mistake with SSX Blur. And I might have made the same mistake with Red Steel, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it for reasons other than control mechanics.

A FF7 spin off that doesn't suck... I'd never thought I'd live to see the day. But they had years to perfect it.

If you have a PSP already, pick up Brave Story or Jeanne D'Arc. They're both lovely games.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure anything Square puts out will be better than DoC. Or Dawn of Mana for that matter.

Seriously. Let's keep our personal gripes either to ourselves or off the boards. Or, we can share our opinions without insulting others. It's a lost art on the Internet, I know.

Nothing really that interests me here except possibly Crisis Core, but I'd rather play a new RPG than revisit FFVII's world again right now. Maybe a few years down the road I'll pick it up and give it a whirl.

Either way, I think it'll be a much more enjoyable experience than Dirge of Cerberus.

Wow, 4 post in and already 3post of trolling.

I had no idea that another mystery dungeon series was starting, that's interesting enough.

Pretty good score for SSX Blur. Actually what it deserves, unlike the US reviews for it, which largely complained about how they thought the game sucked because they sucked at it.
