It was a big week for news in Japan as several major announcements were made for the PlayStation 3.
First up,
Sega confirmed that
Yakuza 3 would be hitting the PS3, but this time with a twist. Instead of a modern-day Tokyo gang-war, the game will be set in the 1605 Edo Period of medieval Japan. There will be new fighting styles for the main character, including bare fists, single and double blades, and huge blades. The game is due out in Spring of 2008, but no word on a U.S. release (the 2nd one was never even released here).
The oft-argued rumor of a PS3
Eternal Sonata port has finally been confirmed:
Namco will release a version for the
Sony console that allows the characters Serenade and Crescendo to be playable. Gamers will also be able to change character outfits. Like
Yakuza 3, look for it Spring 2008 in Japan.
Next, the folks over at
Irem, the developers behind 2006's PS2 charmer
Steambot Chronicles have confirmed
two new games. Well,
Bumpy Trot 2 (a.k.a.
Steambot Chronicles 2) has moved development from the PS2 to the PS3, but the game was already known about from Irem's Web site. The company did, however, announce a 2008 PSP game called
Bumpy Trot Beagle Battle Tournament. No details are known yet, but the game will feature multiplayer versus modes in the clankety steam-powered bipedal mecha the series is known for.
Finally, The
Nintendo DS will play home to a revival of one of the zaniest and quirkiest side-scrolling shooters ever made.
Bangai-O Tamashii is headed to the handheld with a wireless four-player mode and a stage editor. The game will be out this winter, so cross your fingers for a stateside release, as the original game developed a cult following on the Dreamcast.

Am I the only person truly hyped about Bumpy Trot 2? Ah well, at least with it on the PS3, I'll be able to import it if Atlus doesn't decide to translate it.

Portable Ops +
It's a different game (well, not so much different as much as it is the same game packed with more stuff). Hence the + at the end.

Wait, they're only NOW getting Portable Ops? Well, combine that with Crisis Core and the Slim, and the PSP should see a good sales boost next week.

So, any official confirmation from Namco on Beautiful Katamari appearing on PS3 along with Eternal Sonata? Both games briefly showed up on their site's PS3 list and then disappeared again... seems not unlikely that they're waiting for a TGS announcement, but is ES is official via Famitsu already...?
