"add on top of that the fact that Wii's are being diverted FROM Japan to the US for the Holiday season,"
"There's also a bit of a plastic shortage in Japan (worldwide possibly?) currently,"
........wow. Ouch. Double whammy.

It's really that low. There's also a bit of a plastic shortage in Japan (worldwide possibly?) currently, which probably means Mario Galaxy didn't get that many JP copies printed.

is the wii supply really that low?
or is it just not selling as well as the ds/psp?

It's not so surprising when you consider the fact that Wii supply is already strained as it is -- add on top of that the fact that Wii's are being diverted FROM Japan to the US for the Holiday season, and you have the makings for another dry supply of hardware.

The 360 boost is only going to last this week maybe the next one too, and then again new lows, a few weeks from now another boost with lost odyssey and then hell...
What i found surprising is the boost for the wii only 10k more and you have to consider that this was the week that mario galaxy came out...

PS2 sales may be dwindling in Japan, but they're still going pretty strong everywhere else. Even though the re-designed PS2 hasn't been announced in other territories yet, you know they're going to start shipping them here once the current stock of PS2 slims start to dwindle a bit.
As for the DS, I give it a 65% chance of overtaking the PS2 in lifetime sales before year end. Depends on how well that redesign sells. Does anyone think the DS has a chance at passing the original Gameboy's record for lifetime sales in Japan? Didn't that system break 30 million? Personally, I think the DS can do it, provided Nintendo doesn't try to rush a new handheld to the market prematurely as the have in the past (Poor Gameboy Color).

Has the PS3 reached a new low? I find this very surprising. Microsoft buying Bungie a while back had to have been one of their smarter moves. :P

Looking at current PS2 sales, just how many of the new PS2s do Sony expect to sell? Is it just going to go the way of the GameBoy Micro?

It is impressive to consider that the 360 saw a 450% increase in sales. Although it's funny to consider that by that same statistic the GBA and NGC are heroes in their own right, also.
Why don't we just call Ace Combat the real winner?
Hooray for games moving systems.

I think someone should at least mention the biggest jump was the 360 at 13,955. In a sense, it's the winner this time round.

There's only (roughly) 7 weeks left of the year.
*does some maths*
DS needs 140,000 (ish) a week to overtake the PS2 this year. Can it do it? I think so... if it has a couple of quarter-million weeks in the build up to christmas. Like last year.
Not to take anything away from the 360s boost over the PS3 but, it's only a few hundred units more.

The DS won't have a problem gaining another million on the PS2 by the end of the year. Its December sales have been insane for the past couple of years, and I wouldn't expect anything to change. Expect between 1 and 1.5 million this December in Japan.

Not only that Drk, the Wii is closing in on the Gamecube's life time sales as well. I am still having a hard time believing Ace Combat 6 could give the 360 such a boost. I'd figure it would be an RPG. Wonders never cease it seems.

I don't really get much use out of looking at these news posts, so I tend to ignore them. However, I guess I just realized that the DS is really closing in on the PS2 in lifetime sales. Interesting.

The 360 surge is due to the new Ace Combat. From what I've seen of the game here, I'd say it deserves it, too.

Hard to ignore those relatively impressive 360 numbers but, at less than 500,000 lifetime sales, it's already been numerically surpassed by the much younger PS3. Microsoft have a lot of work to do if they want to catch up.

Things are getting interesting now. A lot closer than they have been for a long time.
Question: Can the DS beat the PS2's lifetime record before the end of the year?

It's an interesting position to see the 360 outselling the PS3 and the PS2 this week. The surge in sales could certainly be explained by the surge in quality titles available in Japan recently. Still, it is an unexpected week. Perhaps there is hope for the 360 in Japan yet.

Is this the first time the 360's outsold the PS3?

Don't suppose there's any chance we could get the numbers for 10/15-10/28? Or even 10/01-10/07? Please?

Wow, a little boost for the 360 there. I was unaware of the effect Ace Combat had on Japan before this week, but now I know better.
