News - Microsoft acknowledges Xbox Live issues

As many of you have noticed, Xbox Live has been experiencing some issues over the past few weeks, mainly since the week before Christmas. Connections have been lost, parties have been dropped, and gamertags are seemingly lost.
Microsoft has officially made an announcement as to why gamers have been having so much trouble via Director of Programming for Xbox Live, Larry Hyrb (aka Major Nelson).
The Major admits that Xbox Live has been undergoing a very long unplanned outage, and that technicians are working around the clock to fix the problem. The main reason things have been taking so long to fix is because essential staff were on their Seasonal Holiday break when the outage occurred; the service was never completely down, but major issues have kept the service from allowing more than half of American subscribers from logging in or joining matchmaking.
Another major problem is that many people are unable to recover their gamertags (such as myself...), and these people are unable to access games, movies, and other media stored on their hard drives.
As of this post, many people who were experiencing problems have had their issues resolved, but much of the subscriber base is still locked out of Live. Sources from inside Microsoft say that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be compensated for their downtime, but have refused to say how.
For now, we Gold subscribers are still left in the dark.

I go off and on. One day it'll be fine, the next it'll tell me it can't connect to messenger. It's pretty annoying.

Interesting. I experienced an inability to access my gamertag around Dec 20th or so and a failure to link up with XBox live. I shrugged it off and it was working the next day and I never thought twice about it again.
Sucks that some people have been cut off for a while. Good luck to you.

so thats why sometimes when i turn the system on it always seems to try to log in and it can not.

The recover tag thing has always been a mess. Just don't transfer over to a friends xbox unless you plan on staying there for quite some time.
