First we hear that EGM is going out of print, now another publication is going under?
A posting on eBay (of all places) advertises the sale of Hardcore Gamer magazine for a measly $42,000 USD. That means that you'll have to bid at least $42,001 if you want to own a print publication.
Of course, methinks that Double Jump Books (the publishers and owners of Hardcore Gamer...) might not be totally serious about the sale, or at least hold a little animosity toward the online world of game publications, due to their sales pitch posted with the auction:
Want your own video game magazine and have all the big game companies beg you to cover their latest games before they're released? Want to be wined and dined by Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Rockstar, Capcom, and Konami, to name a few? Want to have your editors flown on all expenses paid press junkets to Japan, the UK and all across the US? Want exclusive-access passes to attend closed, industry-only trade shows, like E3 and GDC? Good luck with that if you're starting from scratch. We've already got what takes years to build right now and it could be yours now instantly.
Well, that's certainly no way to pitch your magazine as an insightful contributor to the games press industry. Then again, maybe GAF could use a little touch of Hardcore...
