News - adhocParty coming to PSP in North America

Posted by Richard Brownell at 11:12:22 PM EST on 11.18.2009.

Sony recently announced that the adhocParty feature for PSP will be coming to North American PSP owners this month. adhocParty, which launched in Japan last year, allows gamers to play select online multiplayer games featuring Ad Hoc modes over the internet through the PlayStation 3 rather than having to be in close proximity to each other.

“The PlayStation brand is synonymous with creating exciting new gameplay experiences that connect and challenge people in ways they never thought possible,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA. “AdhocParty for the PSP system creates an avenue for gamers to connect, strategize, and compete with each other – Gran Turismo is a great example of this. Polyphony Digital developed robust Ad Hoc features within the game, which are now even more accessible through adhocParty. We saw this as a tremendous opportunity to enhance the PSP system’s online gaming experience and bring the service to our North American consumers.”

Titles that Sony and Capcom highlighted that feature adhocParty are Gran Turismo and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. There isn't a specific launch date set for adhocParty, but the press release from Sony did say November.

Very, very cool. Makes me wish I had a PSP and PS3. Well, there are quite a few reasons besides this, but this is the latest. :)
